Parkinsonian Links
Where to Find the Latest News
There are a number of sites operated by Parkinsonians on the World Wide Web that promise to bring the latest news to their web sites. Many of them promise regular updates to the news; few, if any consistently update every day or even every week. To get the latest news every day, one is almost forced to go through many newspapers and medical journals.
One means of getting a goodly amount of the latest information is to follow the listserv. Almost every day, one of more of the members of the listserv will post a timely abstract of an article that they have found elsewhere. But this is often hit-and-miss, as different people with different criteria may do the posting each day.
Murray Charters has assembled a list of sources (54 at this writing) that he calls VIP Magic Links. Here are several sources in which you might find the most recent overnight news: Medline Plus
is a service of the United States National Institues of Health and the National Library of
Medicine that collects data from the New York Times Syndicate, Reuters Health,
United Press International, and elsewhere and retains links to various topics, including
Parkinson's Disease, on its site for thirty days. Other subjects of interest to people
with Parkinson's can be accessed by going to their home page and choosing "Health Topics." Of the medical journals, perhaps the
New England Journal of Medicine
is the most prestigious. Of course there are others, many others. CenterWatch provides some news, but its main interest might be a listing of clinical trials, a list of NIH (National Institutes of Health) projects, and/or a list of FDA appovals.
PDR, the familiar Physicians' Desk Reference, also has some late news. Most of this site is free, but you have to register to use it. The PDR itself is available only if you pay.

New York Times
Medscape will give you access to many of them.
The late Joe Bruman read through many of them and abstracted those which he felt were applicable to Parkinsonism. Typically this was once a month. Now, alas, his material only has archival value. Learn more about this in Research News.
